Bhuni Hui Kichdi

Today I made Kichdi. It’s a little different as I made it in a frying pan and also added soya bean to give it a little variation over traditional kichdi.

Preparation time: 5 minutes

Total Cooktime: 40 minutes.

Ingredients required:

  1. 1/4th tsp Jeera
  2. 1/4th tsp mustard seeds
  3. Soya bean
  4. 70 gms rice
  5. 40 gms Masoor dal
  6. 40 gms Toor Dal
  7. Mustard Oil
  8. Ghee
  9. Salt
  10. Garam Masala
  11. Turmeric powder
  12. Red Chilly Powder
  13. 1/2 Onion
  14. Chopped Carrot
  15. Coriander leaves

Steps I followed:

  1. Take a pan and heat oil in it. Add Jeera and Mustard Seeds in it and fry it for some time.
  2. Mix Rice, Masoor Dal and Toor Daal together and wash them properly and then add it in the pan.IMG_20160116_201345(3)
  3. Add salt, garam masala, red chilly powder and stir the mixture.
  4. Soak the soya bean in water. Meanwhile chop the carrot , onion and coriander leaves.
  5. Add half cup water and the again stir the mixture and then add the soaked soya beans, chopped carrots, onions and coriender leaves.
  6. Stir for five minutes and then add a cup of water. IMG_20160116_202238(4)
  7. Allow the rice too cook. It will take about 20 to 25 minutes.
  8. After the water dries up, add oil and fry the rice.
  9. Then serve hot with Ghee/ butterIMG_20160116_205503(7)
